A Single's Guide To Valentine's Day
February 14th. To some of us it’s a day full of surprises, gifts and special treatment but to others, it is just another normal day. Valentine’s Day is a wonderful day for people who have someone to celebrate it with but, what about those who have no one but themselves. This can often be a sad time especially for those who have recently gone through a breakup or had someone to spend the day with this time last year. but do not this year I know the memories are eating away at you but don’t worry, you’re not alone! These three tips will ensure that your day is indeed filled with love even if you spend it by yourself because after all, self-love is the most important love and before you can love someone else, you must first love yourself!
Treat Yourself!
Not having a valentine is a free excuse to treat yourself for once. The worst thing you can do today is sit in the house and think about how you’re spending the day alone. Go out and do something that makes you happy. Make a reservation at your favorite restaurant and get dressed up or stay in and cook a big meal and get comfy. Go see a movie for a more relaxed day or hit the club for a wild night! Send yourself some chocolate or even a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Today is your day and you cannot let being single ruin that opportunity to do something good for yourself.
Stay Off the Socials...
In our generation of social media, a person’s every move is either snapped about, tweeted about or posted. We as a generation have become so obsessed with sharing our lives with the world and social media has become one of our generation’s biggest influences. If people post a lot on a normal day, you cannot expect anything less on February 14th. I promise that every gift, dinner date and surprise will be on social media so it’s best you just take a step back for the day. It is hard to see other people happy when you’re spending the day alone but, just know that one day your time will come. Who knows, next year you may be the one doing all the posting and spending the day celebrating with your significant other! For now, put the phone down and spend the day focusing on yourself and not what everyone and their valentine are doing.
Mingle With Other Singles <3
While the worst thing you can do on Valentine’s Day is spend the night alone, the best thing you can do is get out there and mingle with other singles. Join a dating app or connect in person with other people in your area. Put yourself out there if you're comfortable or just enjoy the casual company if you're not. Being around people who are in the same situation as you can make your v-day better and ease the pressure of being alone on this day. You may meet your future partner on this day and perhaps this could be the last Valentine’s Day you spend alone.
No matter what you do on this day, find your true happiness, make it about yourself and remember self love is THE BEST LOVE.
